Speaking of Necromunda..

It will be nice to get to play this game again. I basically start from scratch now, although I do have an old Scavvie gang, I want to replace those miniatures gradually. Will need a table, tons of scenery, and I'll start with Escher and Enforcer gangs. The first half of the enforcers were posted in the previous update. The other half still need to be ordered.

Anyway, here are the few minis that have been done:

My Escher leader to be:

 Scavvie replacements:

The old fella got a little mutation, too.

But no marines vs aliens game can be complete without some Lean, Mean, Killing Machines, who keeps screaming GAME OVER MAN!

As I mentioned in the previous post, they will also stand in for Enforcers in Necromunda. Hence all the Dredd quotes and shoulder pads. I went for a SWAT like paint scheme, which being pretty dark should fit well with the 'alien' theme.

Here they are:

Next project up is Tyranid Attack. The old miniatures where almost completely smashed and destroyed after being in a (probably rat infested) barn for the last 15+ years.

Still, it's a decent, fun game, and I will do my best to get it up and going again.

All I need are a few Tyranids, and a couple of packs of Space Marines.

I decided to make my own twist though. And make the Tyranids and marines alien inspired.

On top of that, the SM Scouts will stand in for Enforcers in Necromunda, so they will see a lot of use in the coming months.

Due to some pieces missing, I'll have to make some new tokens with my printer, as well.

Here are some of the progress on the Tyranids:

This was the prototype, the first one made from original genestealer bits:

I then decided to buy some bits from Epoch Studioz, which yielded a great result. This is pre-gloss, as pictures of glossy miniatures are hard to get 'right'. Below that, you can see the finished gloss version:

One thing which is not possible to purchase anymore are the hybrid genestealers. I had to find replacements for those, and ended up with these, from Reaper minis:

The game eventually got ready enough to be playable, and I am looking forward to the first session with the new miniatures:

Here are some of the new miniatures (and old that I want to keep) to be used in Hero Quest:

Original Gargoyle:

This is the new gargoyle, it's a rubber version from Reaper, which is not very good. The wings are almost falling off, because they get squeezed in the miniature case. This is because they are so "flappy" and move very easily. :/ Not going to buy more of this particular range, I believe.

Original Fimir, that I gave some new weapons:

These goblins are from LOTR:

And these (extremely detailed) Fimir, are from Forgeworld:

First I had to get up to date on my painting.. Which was rusty to say the least. I decided to start with an old minitature, for practice. The less than desireable result is below:

Thankfully, there were some helpful people at CMON that could provide advice. With their tips in mind, I did this miniature:

Still a bit clutty, but an improvement none the least. For me it was good enough for the tabletop.

The rest of the heroes followed in turn:

Barbarians:

Elves:

Dwarves: (I was very happy to find a nice looking female dwarf)

Mages: (The cat stole the male mage hand, so I need to make a new one..)

I think I maybe should have waited with the heroes, and done the monsters first, in retrospect, but I guess the kids won't mind. :)

To rise from the ashes..

Well.. After all this time, I suddenly have a use for this blog I created back in 2007..

I am a very boring person, and don't really have much to write home about. But at least I have taken up my old hobby now (may my wallet forgive me).

I set out to reconstruct some of the old board games I had around the house. Some of them are 18 years old! And the first up was Hero Quest. It's what started me in this hobby after all, and hopefully I can inspire the next generation to play with me and take up analog gaming for themselves.

Other games I want to fix up are: Tyranid Attack, Mutant Chronicles and I'd like to start a few Necromunda gangs, and make scenery.

Challenge Accepted.

Unfortunately I have forgotten how to paint. Actually, when I look at my old miniatures, I never knew how..

Still, I am almost done replacing all the miniatures of the Hero Quest game now, and pictures will follow.

This was the initial purchase list:

Goal:

31 Monsters:

8 Orcs
6 Goblins
3 Fimir
4 Chaos Warriors
1 Warlock
1 Gargoyle
4 Skeletons
2 Zombies
2 Mummies

I also decided to get miniatures for the different special characters in the quest books.

Then I would need 4 heroes. I decided to go large and get 8. One of each sex for each class. More fun for the wives to join.

Okay, orks were easy. One pack of Savage GW orcs. Cool miniatures that looked like dungeon dwelling nasties. One thing ticked off right away.

(I will post pics of my finished miniatures when I am able.)

But the GW goblins all have hoods.. And the ones with no hood looks very cartoony. Not much better than the old ones. I think I will get a pack of the LOTR goblins, but I am very open to suggestions on cool models for these.
It seems like all miniature manufacturers want to put silly hats on goblins, or otherwise make them big fat and ugly. Rackham miniatures had some amazing ones, exactly like I would want, but of course, they could not be located.

Setback..

Oh, well.. Next:

Fimir. I was prepared to have to do some compromising here, and get some lizard men, or similar miniatures, but Warhammer Forge had just released a pack of three.  YAY! They are in the mail and on the way.

http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhamme...-WARRIORS.html

I ordered a small pack of generic Chaos warriors along with the Orcs, pack of three. The last one I want to stand out, and are still trying to decide which one I want. Would be nice with some suggestions here, too.

I had good ol' Heinrich Kemmler lying around from my Warhammer days. I really like him, and will use him as the evil sorcerer. Win, Win. Yes. I also had an old Reaper miniature. Lich with wings and an old tome which can be used as other evil mages in the encounters. I can not find him with the figurefinder, so I suppose it could be out of production.. or I'd give a link.

The Gargoyle is the only miniature I will keep from the old game. It's pretty nice and unique. But they do encounter a Gargoyle as an early opponent, so I decided I'd need more. I settled for a very cheap Reaper rubber miniature since it was only like 3 bucks.

http://www.reapermini.com/figurefinder#detail/77028 Sadly, it is very rubbery, and seems to fall apart fast.

Get what you pay for I suspect. But it looks really good.

Skeletons I also had lying around, and could salvage ten from my rather shabby warhammer army. Just generic skeletons with spears.

I am still undecided about the zombies. I really only need a few. But the reaper line zombies are not very detailed. Manic had some nice ones, but in a box of 30.. And then I think the Warhammer zombies have more detail. I'll most likely get a pack of GW zombies, unless someone has any better ones to recommend.

The mummies were also a bit tricky to choose. I finally decided on the reaper mummies. Bought 5 one of each, and four were nice.

http://www.reapermini.com/figurefinder#detail/02507 Kalith, Mummy King

http://www.reapermini.com/figurefinder#detail/02885 Kalith, Mummy Lord

http://www.reapermini.com/figurefinder#detail/02156 Mummy of Hakir
- I chopped off the thin arm on this one, and modded it with an old bit I had lying around. Armed him with a spear.

http://www.reapermini.com/figurefinder#detail/14399 Nefoskar, Awakened

http://www.reapermini.com/figurefinder#detail/02484 Mummy Lord of Hakir
- This one I really do not like. It has a very strange right arm, and it seems much smaller than all the others. I think I will take his staff and give it to the Awakened..

I've bought the heroes, too. They are in the post somewhere in the world. Bought all from Reaper, too. Had a hard time to decide on the barbarian, had to look at "Conan" miniatures everywhere.. and to find a young mage that was not too extravagant, but also did not look like a mutated harry potter..

I finally settled for Dantrag of Haimdall: http://www.reapermini.com/figurefinder#detail/02233

And for the Mage, Drake Whiteraven: http://www.reapermini.com/figurefinder#detail/03599

The current Dwarf is a Kragmarr Captain: http://www.reapermini.com/figurefinder#detail/14554

For the Elves I use some dark elves I had lying about.

Okay, so that's it. Will post some pics to go along, as soon as I have taken them.
